Wild Rose Highland Dance Studio (WRHDS) is focused on ensuring a fun, engaging, and inclusive atmosphere while developing quality skill levels and technique at age/developmentally appropriate times. We strongly believe kids should be kids and participate in many different activities to develop their physical literacy. Our classes include fun activities like "Highland Hopscotch," jump rope, and "Mix it Up Dots" to encourage skill improvement as well as choreography work for the older dancers to train the brain on learning new steps.
WRHDS accepts students age 4 and up (contact us if your child will turn 4 over the year to discuss the best time to start). We accept new students throughout the year and accept beginners of all ages. Due to our belief that kids should participate in many different activities to develop strong physical literacy we allow make up classes and dancers can switch between classes of similar levels to accommodate changes in activities. Our classes generally have two adult instructors per class.
Exams, through the Scottish Dance Teachers' Alliance (SDTA), are run in the fall for interested dancers. Our recreational and competitive dancers are mixed together at all ages/levels. There is no requirement to compete within the school, however we do have a core group that compete regularly at all levels.
WRHDS holds a year end "show off what you can do" recital in June. This is an opportunity for our dancers to get on stage and perform for those important people in their lives. We do try to arrange one or two other dance performances in the community each year.
